I. Association with and participation in the
activities of Co. E, 33rd Alabama Volunteer Infantry/6th Indiana Infantry
Reenactors ("33rd Alabama" or "the Unit") is a voluntary act undertaken by
anyone who becomes a member of the Unit. The 33rd Alabama accepts no
liability or responsibility whatsoever for any injury which might occur in
or out of uniform while at or traveling to or from any scheduled Unit event.
II. Membership
A. Minimum age for
membership shall be 18; however, younger prospective members may be admitted
by a 2/3 vote of the current membership in good standing. All prospective
members 18 years of age or more shall be admitted by a majority vote of the
current membership in good standing.
B. To maintain good standing a
member:
1.
Must be current in the payment of Unit dues; and
2.
Must have attended at least two official Unit scheduled events within a
one-year period, according to the First Sergeant's roll book.
C. Unit dues shall be $20.00
annually.
D. Dues shall be a total of
$20 for members living in the same household.
E. Annual Unit dues are
payable on the date of the Fall/Winter Unit meeting, as designated by the
Unit Commander. Any member who fails to pay annual dues within a reasonable
time from the due date will be dropped from the rolls.
III. Unit Meetings
A. For all activities other
than voting upon acceptance of membership under Section II(A), above, the
membership in good standing present at any officially scheduled function, as
announced by the Unit Commander, shall constitute a voting quorum.
B. The Unit will hold at least
two meetings each yearone in Spring/Summer, another in Fall/Winter.
C. Only those who are members
in good standing and who carry weapons on the reenacting field can vote on
Unit business.
IV. Unit Elections
A. Unit elections will be held
each year during the Fall/Winter Unit meeting. Members who wish to run for
office must be in good standing and must have at least one year of
uninterrupted service with the Unit.
B. Unit Offices include:
1.
Unit Commander Responsible for the general business matters relevant to
the Unit; may hold Officer or NCO rank with the Unit, but such rank is not
required to serve as Unit Commander. This position is administrative, not
military in its focus.
2.
Unit Adjutant Responsible for Unit funds, record keeping with regard to
said funds, preservation of the Unit Bylaws, and other duties as assigned by
the Unit Commander. The Adjutant may hold Officer or NCO rank with the
Unit, but such rank is not required to serve as Adjutant. This position is
administrative, not military in its focus.

Military Rank Structure Responsible for the military training, tactical
performance and military bearing of the Unit as an infantry company during
the course of reenacting and living history activities. On an annual basis
the Unit shall determine the rank and number of positions deemed to be
necessary and proper in light of unit size and average event attendance in
order to promote the efficient performance of the Unit as an infantry
company.
a) Unit Officers A Captain and up to three Lieutenants. Candidates
should have a thorough knowledge of School of the Soldier, School of the
Company, Skirmish Drill, and School of the Battalion.
(i) To serve as an officer, a member must have served as a Sergeant in the
33rd for at least one year.
(ii) If no candidate meets the above criteria, service as a company
corporal will qualify.
b) Unit Non-commissioned Officers A First Sergeant, one to four
additional Sergeants and two to eight Corporals may be elected from the
Unit's members. Elections for sergeant positions shall be separate. The
election for corporal positions shall be general, with each member
authorized to vote for as many candidates as there are positions open, and
seniority shall be established by the number of votes received by each
successful candidate.
(i) Candidates should meet the following criteria:
a. First Sergeant a thorough knowledge of School of the
Soldier, School of the Company, Skirmish Drill, and Guard Mount, and prior
service as a Unit sergeant for a minimum of one year;
b. Sergeant a thorough knowledge of School of the
Soldier, School of the Company, and Skirmish Drill and prior service as an
elected NCO of the Unit for a minimum of one year or consistent brevets to
such a position for the two years immediately preceding the election;
c. Corporal a through knowledge of School of the
Soldier and skirmish drill.
4.
Chaplain a member in good standing of the Unit may, at the
discretion of the Captain, be appointed as Unit Chaplain.
5. The
Unit Officer commanding the company at an event may brevet any Unit member
to NCO rank and any NCO to higher NCO rank or to officer rank for that
event, or for some portion of an event.
V. Conduct of Members
A. All members must be fully
uniformed and equipped in accordance with the 33rd Alabama/6th Indiana
Uniform Guidelines to portray both a CS and a US soldier within a reasonable
time (approximately one year) after joining the unit. The 33rd Alabama/6th
Indiana Uniform Guidelines shall be maintained and reviewed by a Uniform
Guidelines Committee consisting of three members of the unit who shall be
appointed by the Unit Commander.
B. All members below the rank
of Sergeant must have 60 rolled and charged cartridges per day for a battle
reenactment.
C. The minimum age for
carrying a weapon on the field is 15 years of age when no parent or guardian
is present in the ranks, and 14 years of age when a parent or guardian is
present.
